Faststream Recruitment is taking part in the ‘Mentoring + Programme’, which is being run by Southampton Solent University. The programme is intended to narrow the employment equality gap for disadvantaged graduates via a scheme which helps any student who feels that they may be disadvantaged into the labour market after graduating.

Faststream’s Internal Recruiter, Adam Myers, who leads Faststream’s in-house recruitment and is widely experienced within HR has been partnered with final year Maritime Studies student Marcus Pradham.

Adam will be providing one-to-one mentoring to help Marcus successfully gain a career within the maritime industry after graduation.  As well as helping him work on skills such as interviewing, CV writing and networking, Adam and Marcus will be looking at specific maritime career opportunities with the help from Faststream’s own team of maritime recruitment specialists.

Marcus is excited at the prospect of having a mentor to guide him during his final year and said: “As a foreign student I am concerned that it will be more difficult for me to find employment. I am hoping that Adam will help me make good contacts within the industry and give me some pointers on the qualities potential employers are looking for.”

Adam Myers, who will be representing Faststream for the first time in this initiative, commented: “This is a great opportunity for us to build better links with the community and the University.  We are in the process of setting up a graduate training programme and in addition to helping Marcus I am also keen to find out what today’s graduates are looking for and how best we can assist them into the job market.”
