The one day event, being held on 28th September will start and finish in Faststream’s home city of Southampton. Around 500 riders will endure the testing 100 mile route through the Hampshire countryside. The distance is up nearly 40% on last years event, which was run over 2 days covering a combined distance of 125 miles. It is projected that the event will raise over £500,000 for The Mission To Seafarers, a charity aimed at caring for seafarers around the world.
The ride has a total ascent of 5,300ft and will take the cyclists through Salisbury and the New Forest before returning to Southampton.
Faststream will be entering a 4-strong team who have been training hard for the event. Ben Darnton, Faststream’s Shipping, Marine & Offshore manager commented: “It’s Faststream’s first appearance at the event, which is in its second year. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring the shipping community together for a good cause, and also a good excuse to get fit”.
“This is cycling’s equivalent to running a marathon so I’m not surprised that the ambulance crew attended to around 20 injuries in last years event. We’re hoping that all 4 of us will be back at work, unscathed, on Monday morning”.
