The talk aimed to explore the subject of recruitment into the industry and the lack of skilled candidates entering the market is something which is becoming a ‘hot topic’ and seen as playing a vital role in the future success of the sector.
The seminar, delivered by Faststream’s Managing Director Mark Charman, highlighted the high levels of employment opportunities which are currently available within the shipping industry for graduates with maritime related degrees.
Faststream, who have recently launched their Nordic Headquarters in Oslo to facilitate the growth of their shipping recruitment within this region, were keen to make graduates aware of the strong market climate which is currently being experienced, the challenges which companies are facing in recruiting the best possible people and the career opportunities which are globally available.
Over 50 graduates from maritime courses in Oslo attended the seminar, which was also filmed and televised on Nor-Shipping’s official television channel ‘Tradewinds TV’.
Mark Charman, Managing Director of Faststream commented: “As we all know the shipping market is going through a massive growth spell which looks set to continue. Although the market is booming, most of the talk surrounds the decrease in skilled candidates which are being attracted to work in the industry”.
Mark continued: “There’s a real lack of information and education about working within the industry and this can lead to good people choosing different career paths. This makes it important to educate people about the current opportunities which are available in the market and the type of people who our clients are looking for. Faststream will continue to inform, educate and attract people to work within the industry through more initiatives like this”.
