Despite the classical expertise, Masterplanning is also a good element of their design, as these techniques produce strong networks;

Western Harbour Masterplan -  Robert Adam Architects have developed a detailed masterplan for the future development of Western Harbour in Edinburgh. The site is a large trapezoidal land-fill area pointing northward into the Forth and adjacent to the historic fishing village of Newhaven. Robert Adam Architects have designed the scheme according to the principles of Traditional Urbanism. A new approach to planning developed over the last 25 years, this technique recognises the value of traditional planning and emphasises the need in today’s architecture to marry what is still vital in local tradition with the best in our increasingly global civilisation.  The space is defined by interconnected character areas rather than detached, industrial scale structures which often relate poorly their surroundings and are difficult to adapt over the long term.

Lincoln Centre masterplan - Proposals for the remodelling of the Lincoln Centre in New York, located on an important site between Broadway and Lincoln Square. The proposals combine the redevelopment of the site with the enhancement of the identity of Lincoln Square. The designs form a new urban cluster focused upon a central fountain court and would create a direct diagonal link to a new entrance plaza on the northeast corner of Lincoln Square. A range of classical buildings around the enclosed square create a new urban quarter. In particular, the proposed Opera House tower has a strong visual connection with Lincoln Square and comprises valuable apartment and penthouse space and a restaurant within its rooftop temples.
