The company
This NGO is the principal employers’ association for the shipping industry worldwide. Its membership comprises of national ship owners’ associations in 35 countries representing 75% of the world’s tonnage. The organisation has a strong focus on the international regulation of shipping, particularly through its consultative status with the UN.
The role
In the capacity as Manning and Training Advisor, you will be using your previous experience as a crew trainer or manager to liaise between the international governing bodies of shipping law (the International Labour Organisation, International Maritime Organisation and the World Health Organisation) and this NGO’s representative bodies of commercial shipping.
Responsibilities will include:
• Consultation with members on ILO, IMO and WHO regulations relating to crewing and training
• Coordinating the body’s position for the latest STCW reviews
• Development and drafting of ISF publications and guidelines relating to crewing
• Organising conferences
• Lecturing and delivering findings and reports
There will be overseas traveling as required
The person
• Experience and passion as a crewing manager, crew trainer or lecturer
• Sea going experience
• Familiarity with both the industry’s market and the international regulations and bodies
• Excellent and articulate written English
• Good mathematics and calculation skills
• Passion for public speaking
