The company

Nakilat is building a large fleet of vessels to transport LNG produced from Qatar’s North Field. By 2010, Nakilat will own and operate 54 LNG vessels, making it the largest LNG ship owner in the world.

The role

The key responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to the following duties;

Perform continuous analysis and assessments of guarantee claims received and give recommendations on response. To analyse and review the maintenance and repair reports received whilst the vessels are in operation.

Review the dry docking list before and following each dry-dock period. To monitor the accuracy of repair specifications during the scheduled repair periods.

Attend the scheduled repairs to safeguard and ensure they are undertaken to the required standard as well as attending the post docking review meetings price negotiations.

Provide technical advice on all aspects of the maintenance and repairs of the gas vessels and technical matters relating to the safe and economic transportation of gas.

Perform statistical analysis on such items as repair periods, the frequency of repairs, the speed of the repairs, fuel and LNG consumption in order to ensure that the vessel operations are in accordance with the standards. To maintain a database giving technical historical records regarding equipment failures, fuel consumption and spare parts consumption.

Monitor the vessels performance and condition for best attainable industry standards through regular ship visit.

Undertake technical and safety audits and Vetting of vessels as required.

The person

To be the right person for this role, you will:

Hold a Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency, and have significant sailing experience on board large LNG / LPG/ crude oil vessels of any KW as a Senior Engineer (Chief/ 2nd Engineer).

Have gained shore based service, in a staff management position of a large gas / oil transportation Company.

Have excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. An understanding of Arabic culture is also seen as beneficial.

Have management, leadership, decision-making, problem solving and organizational skills.

IT and financial awareness skills.
