Founded in 1936, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is one of the world’s leading architecture, urban design, engineering and interior architecture firms. SOM has been active in Europe for nearly 50 years and established its London office in 1986, in response to major commissions at Broadgate and Canary Wharf. SOM’s work has continued at these sites, with notable contributions including the master plan for Canary Wharf and the design of Broadgate’s Exchange House.
SOM’s London office is a multi-disciplinary practice, which focuses on architecture, urban design, and structural engineering. Achieving design excellence is the primary objective for each of our diverse range of projects, which currently include office buildings, large mixed use developments, residential towers, airport extensions and conference facilities throughout the UK and Europe.
Significant work includes 201 Bishopsgate & The Broadgate Tower – 13 and 36 storeys respectively, which span Liverpool Street Station’s mainline tracks; an International Treaty Organisation Headquarters building in Brussels; a residential-led mixed-use development at Leamouth Peninsula in London; Finsbury Avenue Square, the award-winning public space in the heart of Broadgate; the Qatar Petroleum Complex Project in Doha, incorporating office and leisure uses; and a new pier for Dublin Airport.
