A survey published in The Times on 23rd November identifying the main reasons for companies to use temporary staff revealed that ‘additional projects’ accounts for nearly 70% of temporary or freelance recruitment.
The multi-choice survey also showed that ‘unpredictable workload’ accounted for just over 50%, ‘specialist skills needed’ accounting for 48% and ‘to cover holidays’ 41% of short-term recruitment.
With such varied reasons for choosing temporary recruitment as a solution to under-staffing, the market is in a strong position for both clients and candidates.
Faststream’s Architectural team manager, Claire Colly commented: “Temporary and contract work has become an important market for Faststream and we currently have a large number of contractors working through us in architectural and civil engineering roles”.
“Temporary work gives candidates the opportunity to gain experience in a number of different disciplines and the varied knowledge and experience which they gain during this can be a positive factor when finding permanent employment in the future”.
